Silk

CURATED BY ALAJIA MCKIZIA
SEPTEMBER 14TH - SEPTEMBER 28TH, 2018

Memory and time move along parallel tracks that diverge when nostalgia colors feelings. Remembered details once far off in the distance, come into clear focus with a smell, a sound, or a song. Impression subsumes accuracy and happy childhoods get happier, tough ones get tougher, and alternative histories, subject to suppression and permission, emerge as the stories we tell each other.

Silk, curated by Alajia McKizia, interprets the fluidity of memory by bringing together five artists who investigate the intersection of lived and remembered experience. Casey Callahan, Anne Dovali, Emma Krenzer, Alajia McKizia, and Jessica White work across multiple representational platforms including performance, sculpture, and painting to trace the shifts and ruptures that transform what is remembered as truth into mythologized personal narratives.

This exhibition was presented with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment.
