More about Amplify’s 2021 Artist Support Grants:
Amplify's Black American Artist Support Grant is an unrestricted $5,000 award, granted by an external jury of culture workers and community members, to an individual, collective, or collaborative duo making outstanding work in any discipline. Any applicant who self-identifies as Black, African American, Afro-Indigenous, Afro-Latino/a/x, or mixed heritage with African ancestry is encouraged to apply. Practitioners committed to expanding the parameters of contemporary art practice in new and innovative ways, reconstructing and reclaiming cultural identities, and asserting the subjectivities of Blackness in their work are especially encouraged to apply.
Amplify's Indigenous American Artist Support Grant is an unrestricted $5,000 award, granted by an external jury of culture workers and community members, to an individual, collective, or collaborative duo making outstanding work in any discipline. Applicants who claim Native North, Central or South American ancestry are encouraged to apply. Practitioners working at the intersection of art and activism to combat the legacy of colonialism by asserting Indigenous peoples’ sovereignty, reconstructing and reclaiming language, preserving cultural land use practices, and expanding artistic traditions are especially encouraged to apply.
The Drew Billings Artist Support Grant is an unrestricted $5,000 award, granted by an external jury of culture workers and community members, to an individual, collective, or collaborative duo to support the development, creation, and presentation of new performance-based work. This award was established in 2009, and originally disbursed by the Drew Billings Foundation to continue Drew Billing’s legacy of selfless devotion to the creative community and promote innovative artistic expression by encouraging and supporting local independent performing artists.
This grant is designed to support artists making outstanding work in performance inclusive disciplines encompassing, but not limited to, performance art, sound, dance, music, theater, film, and spoken word. The grant term is from March 2021 to December 2021. Grant recipients will receive special recognition throughout the grant term via announcements on social media, Amplify’s website, and in email newsletters.
Our special designation Artist Support Grants are for artists, culture workers, and creative practitioners working in any discipline who self-identify as a member of a community or communities that have historically faced discrimination or been denied access to institutional support based on race, age, national origin, religious background, differing abilities, sex, sexual orientation, economic status, or gender identity. Amplify’s intention is not to ghettoize, essentialize, or further marginalize any one population, but rather, provide increased direct financial support to adjust historic imbalances.
